Why does NationWide ins. not pay valid Claims?
We were denied payment from NationWide ins. because we didn't have pictures and receipts on everything stolen...Who does?

One of the biggest complaints about insurance is that they accept your money but are very slow to pay out when you have a claim. Tell them about people who know that you owned the items and see if they will accept sworn testimony in place of photos.
They don't pay because it eats up their profits..

The question is not clear. If you are talking of ornaments, there may be photos taken by your relatives or friends. In any case, normally photographic evidence is not required. Lodge complaint before Insurance Ombudsman

so if you cannot prove you owned an item you think its fair they just pay for it because you said you owned it? if that were the case everyone would claim thousands of dollars in items they never owned! If that happened the insurance industry would go belly up. see if you have a picture of the items in family pictures you may have it in a picture and not even realize it. i always advise insureds to take a video camera through their home and video everything and then place it in a safe place for just this reason.

Is this a homeowner's claim? Typically you would need to prove that someone broke into your home. You can do this by showing forced or unauthorized entry. Next you would need to file a report with your local law enforcement, no insurance company will proceed if you are not willing to do this. Nationwide should pay, if this is a valid claim and if you had proper coverage. If this happened on vacation a percentage of your personal property is still covered anywhere in the world (in Oregon 10%).

There are certain limits on silverware, guns, money, jewelry, artwork, business equipment, etc. Have you reached the limit or are they not paying a dime? Is there a deductible that has not been met? Are you fudging the truth by telling them that you had tons of furniture and you live in a 800 sq ft apartment? Not having receipts is not a valid reason to deny a claim. Think about all the claims that would be denied. My grandparents haven't purchased a lick of furniture in approx. 30 yrs. Just because they don't have reciepts, they get $0.00 if they have a fire loss or theft? I don't think so.

However, if you think that they will cut you a check for the grand total of your belongings, your wrong. Most companies have a way to get discounts on merchandise. This way they keep their costs down and can still replace your possessions.

You may just be dealing with an over zealous claims adjuster, ask to speak to a manager and get a WRITTEN explanation. If they insist then you will have to file a report to your state's insurance commissioner if you want compensation.

They don't. They pay valid claims.

That's not a valid reason. That's not the reason on the declination letter, as it would never hold up.

You don't need receipts for everything. But if you also can't come up with any pictures, it sounds like at least, a highly exaggerated claim. EVERYONE has pictures of holidays at their house, or the prom dress, or the kids being cute, or the dog sleeping on the sofa. Anything purchased on a credit card, as most larger ticket items are, you can get a statement from the credit card company for up to 18 months.

You need to discuss your options with YOUR AGENT.

Obviously you can't prove that you had the items and they can't prove you didn't it's a grey area. Tough luck.
