Why does a noncustodial parent have to provide insurance coverage on a pregnant 17 year old?

NyteShayde
Actually you may be responsible for paying for the pregnancy since legally the child is an adult once she becomes pregnant. Once she has had the baby the new mommy can be put back on your insurance and the grandbaby has no insurance. Basically, your insurance will drop her since her pregnancy is not covered under the policy (if your insurance is employee based that is). Thus the bill will be your responsibility to pay for due to the divorce decree. I would start calling around and finding out if she qualifies for medicaid.

In a case of divorce, the court usually decides who has to carry insurance on the children. Besides, you brought them into the world (they certainly didn't ask to be here) so it is your responsibility to take care of them until they are an adult.

Cause the 17 y/o is still a minor and the judge says so.

Read your divorce decree. Then consult an attorney. and congratulations on becoming a grandparent.

Because she's a minor, and YOUR child.

because they're a minor - however, you can have them emancipated and stop providing insurance and waive all legal rights.
