Isle Esme | Why does my health insurance suck!!?? ? |
I pay 318 a month for Aetna PPO for myself, husband and baby girl. We have a 5,000 dollar deductable so of course.. we have to pay for any hospital visits out of pocket plus the copay. They don't cover lab, xrays and just a tiny portion of prescription.
Is there any affordable health insurance out there that covers more???
Everytime I get sick I get into debt 2 grand. It is just getting ridiculous. Additional Details I know the obvious reason, as you all stated.. is because I am not paying very much. But the fact is I am in college full-time, working full-time and plus raising a child. It just seems completely unfair that once a year I usually get a severe asthma attack that leaves me more and more in debt. I can't afford to pay $700/month in health insurance for full coverage. It works out cheaper just to stack the 2 grand worth of debt once a year.
I don't know, just something doesn't seem right. If it were my daughter I'd never second guess it.. I'd pay any amount of money for her. But it's sad at 23 I have to ever question going to the hospital.
Just very frusterated. |

$318 a month for a family is cheap! That sounds like an individual rate. Really, if a person wants a good plan and not too much premium a $1,000 or $2,500 deductible plan is probably best. In the State I live in, one company has a $2,500 plan with a $5,000 out-of-pocket maximum, and the OOP maximum includes the deductible. I think it is the best value available.
I would contact an agent to see what your options are. Agents work for free you know. That is, you pay nothing extra to have an agent represent you.
To change individual plans you will most likely have to go through medical underwriting, there is a chance you could be declined coverage, so NEVER cancel a policy until you are approved on another.
WEll it sounds like you are not a college girl. You chose a family life before you got your education. Guess What...Life is not fair. WE all have to live with the choices we make. |

It sucks, because you don't pay very much for it. The average cost of a low deductible family plan is $1000 a month.
The less you pay for insurance, the less it covers. That's just how it works.
In 2005, the health costs for every man, woman, and child in the USA, were more than $7,000 PER PERSON. That works out to more than $500 per month. Accordingly, mathmatically, as long as the three of you are paying less than $1500 a month, you're actually AHEAD of the game.
The real problem, is people want to exchange $100 a month of coverage, for $500 a month of payouts . . .and, also mathmatically, that system just isn't sustainable. |

Your health insurance sucks because you have very cheap health insurance. A few years back when I paid for insurance for just me, it was nearly $1000 a month. That's what a decent insurance policy costs for one healthy person, and that still has a deductible, copay, exclusions, etc. Your best bet is to find a job that has good health insurance. |

mbrcatz is correct. You have what is known as a high deductible health plan (HDHP). These are usually paired with a Health Savings Account (HSA). |

Health insurance came about around the same time as the watergate scandle was booming. Health insurance is a legal way of ripping people off. |

Check the internet for different options, or call an independent insurance rep. You might just need to look for a supplement, |
