Well, in some states, it's not! Massachusetts, for example, prohibits charging different rates based on gender - even though men under 23 have more accidents than women under 23, and even though men die earlier than women (life insurance example).
So it depends on where you live - if your state permits it, then the rate differences is because, on the whole, insurance companies pay out more in claims, more frequently, for boys than girls. |

This one's easy--men do not live as long as women, currently men live an average of approx. 73-74 yrs in the US an females live until almost 80 on average...if you take out the so-called "bum" factor...(and I do not mean to be rude...just plainly quote a statistic) OK lets say the "homeless" instead, but when factoring them out of the equation, the average man lives to be a ripe old age of around 84 and the woman 88. Note that we are living longer...The fastest growing segment of the US population today is of those who are 85 or older, and of that group the fastest growing segment is that of the 100 year olds. Those whippersnappers.
