sarah76 | Why is it magnitory to have insurance when it is not guaranteed to cover anything? |
Car insurance is a scam considering you pay and it is not gauranteed to cover anything if something happens to you. Is there anyone else that thinks people should not be forced to pay anything that does not build a real cash value over time. |

Because the government give kickbacks to insurance companies and they both make a mint. |

It's MANDATORY, actually, but not all parts. It IS guaranteed to cover, the guarantee is BY your state insurance department, AS LONG AS you comply with the terms and conditions.
It's a TWO WAY CONTRACT. If you void the contract (like, by faking a theft), the contract SAYS they don't cover it.
Car insurance doesn't build cash value. Neither do lottery ticket sales, cigarette or alchohol sales, or FAST FOOD SALES. Want to outlaw those, too??
And actually, you AREN'T forced to buy car insurance. You only have to buy it by law, if you're driving on public streets. There are MILLIONS of non-drivers out there that don't have it. And the bus is cheaper, anyway. |

Magnitory, huh? I suppose car insurance that builds a cash value could technically be done, but it would be at least twice as expensive, probably more. And car insurance does cover lots of things. Many types of coverage are optional, and many people opt not to choose some of these coverages to save a few bucks, and then are super pissed off when they have a claim.
Also, car insurance will not cover you in certain instances, like if you're driving drunk, committing another illegal act, intentionally causing damage or injury, driving without a license, etc.
So what happened to you that wasn't covered? |

It is guaranteed to cover exactly what it says in the contract. If you didn't understand it when you took it out, ask the agent to explain it again and again.
If they didn't cover what it says in the contract, you have a legal case. |

Auto insurance is guaranteed to cover exactly what the policy says it will cover. (Often courts rule that it must cover even more than what the policy says.) Just because you don't understand what is covered doesn't mean that the coverage isn't there. |

Whether you wish to believe it or not, it DOES cover your butt in case you get hit by a drunk driver, someone without a license, or even someone without insurance. Unless you enjoy the idea of reaping massive financial costs in the event of accident, be thankful there is something in place to be there for you.
The cash value is in knowing you're protected. As for a scam, I think not.
And for the record, maybe you should learn to spell mandatory before griping. |

You are required to have auto insurance, not so much for yourself, but for others. If you cause an accident and damage someone else's property (their car, their home, etc.), your insurance will pay. If you cause an accident and someone else is hurt and incurs medical bills, your insurance will pay. REQUIRED auto insurance is to protect others, NOT to protect you. |

It sounds like you were at fault in an accident and did not have the right type of collision coverage. If this is the case, your agent is responsible for not properly educating you on the options available to you at the time you purchased your car insurance that is "mandatory" by law. "Cash Value" refers to investment and cars depreciate over time so that is a little confusing to me. Your insurance pays to repair your car back to the condition it was in, never "better" than before an accident. There is no scam, it is in writing up front. You pay for exactly what you get. It sounds like you did not understand what you paid for. I would recommend going back to the source of your insurance and demanding an explanation of the coverages, so you fully understand your policy and the options available to you. If your agent does not do this, than you are not with the right kind of company - SWITCH FAST. |
