Because you're less likely to run out in front of a car or bite someone! I think..... |

Because your dog has a shorter life and within that short life he will have far more many things to worry about with regards to illnesses. Plus your dog is more likely to get run over than you, is more likely to swallow a stick than you, the list goes on. But also there are far less vets who operate and there are far less pet hospitals than there are surgeons and hospitals for people. |

Because dogs have no road sense and thus are prone to being involved in/causing accidents !
They also require veterinary treatment - which is usually done by a private practice - which costs money ! |

Their life expectancy is 1/5 of a humans life approximately. The likelihood of illness within the next several years is greater than that of a young human. Plus pet insurance probably has not negotiated lower provider fees as health insurance carriers have.
Don't worry though your insurance is going to keep going up. Do you pay the entire premium or just a part of it? |

If it is life insurance then maybe the head stone cost more then for people. My neighbor paid so much for a grave in a Pet cemetery! But you gave me an idea. I may check into insuring my cat! |

Because getting pet insurance is rare and they have to make their money off the people who will actually do it. |

Because you don't run out in front of cars, dive through barbwire fences after rabbits, chase deer, next doors cat or hump the pretty little pedigree Yorke across the road nearly squashing her ! hopefully. |

Because it is still a speciality item and not that many people use it. Also pet's cost a lot of money yet with us humans you may never use it for the time you have it. Yet with a pet as they only live a decade or so it costs a lot to keep them going. |

i suppose more people claim on a pets insurance than human insurance, and where i am (UK) if you get ill then it's free to be treated on the NHS, but there is no doggy NHS!
i insure my 2 cats at a cost of £16-00 per month, it took ages to fing the best value policy that was worth getting-i'm glad i did as i have used it with one cat, the bill was over £1000-00.
I am getting a dog soon, and i will insure him too.
If you get an animal, you should look after them properly, and that includes insurance.

First off, where do you live and what kind of pet do you have? I'm in the U.S. - Illinois and have looked into pet insurance for my dog. The rates I see there are pretty low compared to, say, auto insurance, or even life insurance for me... |

I think technically you are probably more expensive than your dog - indirectly at least.
In the UK, if you work you pay NI, which is kind of an insurance for NHS and benefits. If you add those deductions to the other insurance payments you may make, it's probably more expensive than your dog. |
