Why is the insurance company asking for the past ten years of medical records my sister had?
she died in an accident by high voltage electrocution from a hanging power line while helping someone in a car accident, is the insurance company trying to find ways not to pay the life insurance

If she died during the contestability period (2 years from the policy date in most states), this is normal procedure. They could only deny the death claim if she was not truthful on the application. In such a case, they will refund any premiums she paid as the contract was not valid. I have had clients die during the period of contestability, the claim was substantiated and paid out quickly.

Being an Eagle Scout myself, I have a soft spot for the selfless way she passed. I hope all goes smoothly and I'm sorry to hear that the process is being hindered by the medical records. Sometimes a friendly call to the medical records dept at her doctors office speeds things up.

I'm assuming this is probably standard procedure. There are probably tons of people out there every day who try to scam insurance companies, which isn't fair to them. So to protect themselves, they follow certain steps to validate claims. I wouldn't take offense to it, it's probably just routine.
So sorry to hear about your sister. She sounds like she was a truly brave individual.

Wow very sorry to hear about your sister. They may be trying to make sure she didn't have any past medical history to be wary of. If that is the case you probably have nothing to worry about. Good luck and again, i'm very sorry about your sister, she seems like she was a decent human being!

It is very typical for the insurance companies to find ways out of paying long after you've been paying them premiums. You might want to consult with a lawyer that has experience dealing with insurance companies

I am so sorry to hear about your sister. That has to be hard. my thoughts and prayers go out to you.

****Does kinda sound like they are trying to get out of it. But i don't see how they can say something that happened in her past medical could effect how she passed. ***

( i know when i was in a car accident they wanted past bills because my back was hurt and they wanted to see if i had hurt it before the accident.)

I would actually be curious as to why they needed them- do you have a lawyer? maybe if it comes to it you should get one. best of luck to you.

Yes. Obviously, either she bought a policy with no underwriting prior to purchase, or she purchased a policy fairly recently. They're trying to see if she had an undisclosed medical condition, which would void out the policy. It's called "Lying on the application".

Failure to provide the documentation is ALSO grounds to deny the claim.

stephenweinstein
They want to see if she had a medical condition that she was required to list on the application and did not list on the application. If she lied on the application, then they might be able to avoid paying.

By the way, talk to a lawyer to see if you can sue the power company and/or the driver who caused the car accident.
