Why would SSI deny benefits to a deaf child?
Our son got denied benefits. He is 10 years old, and was born mod/severe deaf. We have 5 children, and are a one income family earning about $60,000 a year. They said we make too much. I thought him getting accepted depended on if he actually had a real disability?, not our income. And I don't think that is a lot of money for a family of 7.

Should I go in the office and try again?, we only asked over the phone.

mbrcatz your stupid. My son has trouble in everything he does from learning disabilities to even doing the simplest things for himself. You have no idea if he is qualified. They give these benefits to even Muslims, illegals, and just lazy people. If anyone should get it, it should be my son.

SSI is welfare health insurance, not disability. It's based PURELY on household income, household assets, and number of people in the house - so yes, you make too much.

Having a bilateral hearing loss, doesn't make you disabled enough to qualify for SSDI.

SSI also counts assets. So, if you have money in the bank or a new car or stocks, you will not qualify because they count all your assets. Yes, your son qualifies on the disability but not on the income.

Wait until your son is 18 and then reapply. If he is not working then his income will qualify.

You applied for the wrong type of benefit.

You should apply for social security "disability" benefits for him, which depend only on being disabled, and not on your finances, and not for SSI.

SSI is a type of benefit. SSI is not an agency or entity and does not deny or approve anything. The part of the government that denies SSA benefits is called SSA.

Being approved for SSI does depend on your finances, not just the disability.
