Jason | Why would an insurance company ask for my credit score? |
I am getting quotes for insurance on a small apartment building I bought. I'm being asked how my credit is? wtf does that have to do with anything? |

Cody, Home insurance covers lots of different things. I'm not familiar with all the details of my homeowners policy, but my homeowners insurance agent is always helpful. Try contacting your agent or a homeowners agent in your town. http://www.usinsuranceadvisor.com/Home-Insurance.html They should be able to help you. |

people with slow credit are a higher risk of claims like it or not but that is the facts |

Insurance companies use your credit score to determine your credit worthiness and ability to pay premiums...and believe it or not...it affects the amount of premium you pay...as does driving history...crazy huh |

Clearly, the apartment is in your personal name.
The fact is, there is a direct corrolation between credit score, and claims made/paid. The lower your score, the higher the claims payout is, statistically. Sure, it might not be YOU, but lump 100 people with credit scores like yours in one group, and 100 people with credit scores 100 points higher, and the group with the lower scores will outclaim the group with the higher scores, every time.
Just like, 16 year old drivers are more likely to have a claim. That doesn't mean EVERY 16 year old will, but the odds are are much more even. So they pay more for car insurance.
And if your credit score is lower, you'll pay more to insure these apartments.
You can get out of it, by putting them on a commercial policy - but that commercial policy costs more to begin with. |

what these folks are saying is true, and it totally stinks
It's a thing you can thank State Farm for, they started it and everyone else followed suit unless prohibited by law
Bad credit and bad loss ratio go hand in hand
Other things do too, like race but laws have prohibited the use of those things in determining rates, so insurers use what they can
States ought to outlaw this in my opinion. Maryland already has. |

The higher the credit...the higher the savings.
They assume people with great credit take care of their stuff better. Bastards haven't been subjected to identity theft, I'm sure. |

Another way the credit bureaus have the ability to rune your life these days is that for most policies Auto, apartment, etc. part of your rate is based upon your credit score. |

If your credit is good and you have more money you are more likely to fix it yourself than make a claim. So you get a lower rate |

It does not. But if you want them to finance the policy it may. |

The insurance companies feel that your credit score is tied to your character....you're slow at or don't pay your bills, they consider you to be a deadbeat and they stick it to you. |

It's a determing factor as to how much they will charge you for insurance. The car insurance company I am with let me know when they renew my insurance that the credit score I have is an additional factor into my insurance rate. I'm like you though, it shouldn't have anything to do with anything and I personally think its just another way for insurance companies to charge you more. Just keep your credit score good and you shouldn't have a problem getting the best price on insurance. |
