Why would they want my car insurance information if i was the pedestrian injured in an accident?
I was crossing the street and was hit by a car. Why do they want my car insurance information?
Additional Details
Why would they want it? and what if my insurance expired?

Your auto insurance policy most likely has coverages called underinsured motorist, and uninsured motorist coverage, which kick in if you're injured as a pedestrian.

If you don't have current car insurance, it's not a big deal, as long as you have health insurance. If you don't have car or health insurance, you'll be paying the medical bills out of pocket.

You don't specify who "they" is, but I'm assuming it's a medical provider.

Because you may make a claim against your own policy, as an uninsured or under-insured motorist , if you were injured seriously enough, that the other driver was not insured, or underinsured.

your Personal Injury Protection (PIP) covers you in the event that you are in an accident involving a car. you could be in someone else's car or on bike or on foot. also you may be partially at fault, i don't know how it happened.

In florida your PIP pays first regardless of fault, i don't know where you are but its possible this is the same there. don't just sue them either.

if you sue the driver, you may not ever get money if they don't have any.
If you sue the insurance company before they can pay, it costs them more. where do you think they will get the money to cover that.......that's right higher premiums.

Just give the insurance info, it can't hurt you any.

Your car insurance company may cover you if you were in a pedestrian accident involving a car.

DON'T GIVE IT TO THEM! Get their insurance and sue the heck out of them.

They want your insurance to pay if you were at fault.
If you weren`t at fault thair insurance will have to pay you.

Don't give them this information, they are trying to see what kind of medical bills your insurance will pay and they don't have to. If you want to verify this stance, check with your insurance broker or carrier.

If the driver was without insurance, you will have to sue your insurance company for medical, etc. IF the driver WAS insured, the insurance companies have some kind of dialogue involving anything that might cost either of them.

cuz if you have car and car insurance then your car insurance company has to pay you(your bills) and then they will get that money from the insurance of the person that hit, I don't know why it's like that but that's how it works, but I don't think that you have to give them anything, talk to a lawyer first

Because they are probably shook up over hitting you and not thinking straight and only remember everyone always telling them to find out the other person's insurance if you're ever in an accident...
