Wife is pregnant not on my insurance has no prior insurance. once she is onmy insurance will she be covered?
my wife is pregnant and isnt yet on my insurance. When I add her will her pregnancy be considered a pre existing condition. Also, she has never had medical insurane before since she is not from the US.

It looks like it depends on the plan -- see http://parenting.ivillage.com/pregnancy/phealthcare/0,,midwife_46wb,00.html

If you do determine that she is not covered, there are a few things you can try. You can first go plead your case with human resources to see if someone there can help you out. You can contact your local health department to see if there are any governmental programs which would help you out. (That will vary from state to state and likely depend on income.) If all else fails, you can also try to make arrangements with the hospital and/or doctor up front to work out payment, and perhaps negotiate a better rate.

Good luck, and congratulations ahead of time!

If this is your group coverage, pregnancy cannot be considered pre-existing. If this is individual, it is and will not be covered.
Look at this link under the question "What is a pre-exisitng condition"

http://www.dol.gov/ebsa/faqs/faq_consumer_hipaa.html

None of the above matters. When you are able and put her on your plan, the pregnancy will be covered. Pregnancy cannot be considered pre-ex under federal (meaning it applies to all states and self-funded) plans.

Congrats on the baby!

You better ask you insurance company. Seeign as some will and some won't..Anthem I know does not cover pre-existing conditions. If they do not you can either switch companies or go to the county and ask for Medical Assistance from the state. I had to do that for my wife! It kinda sucks but unfortunately thats how Ins. Co. are today. That is why it is a hot button issue in the cirrent campaign

You can only add her during open enrollment, HOWEVER, you need a social security number in order to add her, so you'd better get hopping on that!

They ARE allowed to exclude preexisting conditions for up to 18 months - but on a group plan, that does NOT include pregnancy.

So IF You can add her, the pregnancy would NOT be considered preexisiting, IF this plan is through your employer.

Keep in mind, not ALL employers offer maternity coverage.

Usually if it is a group insurance plan offered through an employer, there are no problems with "pre-existing conditions". Check with your human resources department to make sure, though.
