Will I loose my parents health insurance if I fail one of my college courses?
All too soon I'm going under the knife and I'm worried to death that me failing my online english will cause me to loose my parent's health insurance. Does anyone know if I will or not?
Additional Details
Maybe this will help. I live in Illinois and I was told I need to be enrolled as well as a dependant.

I can only speak for California, but to answer your question.

Insurance companies look at dependents aged 18 - usually 25 as over-age dependents and will allow them to remain on the parents policy IF they are enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited college or university (CA says 12 units). They don't care if you fail or not, just maintain your units and you can remain on the plan.

Jenn,

In my state, you have to be in school and 50% financially dependent on your parents in order to remain on their health insurance. So if you are between say 18 and 26 that may be the case for you. I have never heard of a company requesting proof that you are in school, let alone your actual grades. I think you will be just fine.

No, it's not about courses PASSED, it's courses ATTEMPTED.

I think there is no connection between your education and your parent's health insurance.

Nope. "Carl M" is 100% right! As long as you are in college you are covered. (Just make sure you don't fail too many courses because then you'll have to worry about staying in college!)

no. as long as you are enrolled at a higher learning intitute. you will be covered.

I think that you need to be in college. Do you need to pass? I don't think so. (And how would they know?)
Don't worry and good luck on your class

I was threaded that if I didn't go to school that my health insurance company would drop me. I was only 20 then but I called my insurance agent and he told me that as long as you are dependent on your parents and under 25 then you can and will remain on the plan. If you get married its was void and if you’re handicapped you can stay on forever.

Every company and state has their own set of rules and laws. Call your insurance company don’t disclose your name and ask them.

Good Luck!

(Sorry, I am a insurance agent but I do not do health insurance)
