Will Medicare pay for a relative to take care of a parent after surgery?
My mother is having a operation done on her spine and I was wondering if Medicare will pay for me to take care of her, while she is recuperating.
If so, how do I go about getting the paper so I can get paid for this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

No.

Medicare will cover home health care by a licensed professional when certain medically necessary criteria is met.

However, even if by some chance you are a licensed home health aide and work for a Medicare certified home health agency, Medicare would likely not pay you due to the fact that you are a relative.

Medicare will not pay for care given by a relative.

There are policies with this option. But you have to check with the company that if your policy covers this.

No.

Medicare, and just about every other health insurance, will not pay for care provided by a family member. Doesn't matter whether you are licensed to provide the care or not.

Medicare will not pay for in home custodial care by you or anyone else. Medicare will pay for doctor ordered in home skilled nursing care or therapy but the agency providing the care must be a Medicare approved and licensed agency.

Long Term Care policies will pay for you to help but she'll need to meet the qualifications of the policy.

In order to be paid by Medicare for providing the service, you must be a licensed provider. You can apply by contacting www.medicare.gov.

Likely, even IF You have a nursing license, Medicare isn't going to appoint you as a PRIVATE nurse for her - it doesn't usually cover PRIVATE nursing. Plus, you'd have to have the appropriate liabiltiy coverages - general and professional.

No, that is not generally how it works.
