That is really an interesting question. I checked with my insurance rep on this to get you good ifnormation.
He can not get coverage for the girlfriend unless they are married. However, if he were to marry her then he could add her and there would be no pre-existing condition issues for pregnancy.
Alternatively, if he does not marry the girlfriend and the baby is born, he can add the baby to his health insurance and get coverage for just the child.
However, he has 31 days to add the baby onto a group policy or he loses out. Alternatively, he could always add the child during the open enrollment period as well I would assume.
Hope that helps! |

It won't cover the pregnancy, but it can cover the baby once it is born if the father alerts the insurance company to start 1+1 or family coverage on the day of the birth. |

No, unfortunately it won't. However, once the baby is born, the father can put the child on the insurance |

No. Why would his insurance cover it? He isnt the one who is pregnant. They would have to be married for her to be on his insurance. She has to have her own to have it covered. If she doesnt have it then try medicaide |

NO
But if you marry him - you'll get in the window of opportunity without a physical
IF marriage is not an option - see Social Services about assistance |

Nope. He'd have to marry her and then add her to his policy. Even after the baby is born, some insurance companies won't extend coverage to the child without proof of paternity (READ: That means a DNA test establishing this guy is really the father of the child) unless he marries the mother. |

I do not know one personally but have you searched the insurers sites to see what they can offer and how much they will charge you.

No, only the baby AFTER it is born and he would have to pay more to have the baby put on the policy. You need to find another form of insurance. |

No way. |

No. Prenatal and birth costs are HER costs, not the baby's. If you want to, you can add the baby to your health insurance after it is born. But it won't pay for HER expenses.
You could always MARRY her, you know. That's how you get marital privleges, by taking marital responsibilities. |

Depends on the state you live in. You should check your state and local laws and see if it is possible.
In the event that his insurance does not cover you:
You can always apply for P-Cap. Its a type of medicaid meant for pregnant woman, and being that your not married only your income will be used in determining if your eligable. Call your local medicaid office and ask for an application. The sooner you get it together the better for you and your unborn child. Good luck |

No, thank goodness. Insurance costs are already high enough without having to pay for the consequences of irresponsible behavior. If he does not care enough to marry her, why should we care enough to pay for the pregnancy? |

Only if your state has a domestic partner policy and the girlfriend was added to the policy.
You could always get married. |

One other thing you should be aware of is, when someone is pregnant no individual health insurance companies will issue coverage to them. The best bet for your girlfriend is to find a job that offers health insurance, she can always join the employers group plan even though she is pregnant. As a last resort contact the hospital in advance and set up a payment plan to pay for the delivery before birth this will save you thousands off the uninsured price. You can also sign up for a Maternity discount card that can also save you. In fact they guarantee you will save at least the cost of the card or they will give you $100. http://www.ahcoagent.com/22328/landingpages/preview.asp?page=maternityminiplus.htm&redirect=ahcodirect.com/22328/ |
