Just William | Will an insurance company pay out for items missing from my home when I don't know when or who took them? |
Two valuable rings have gone missing from my home within the last six months. I have had some people installing loft insulation during that time but I cannot say it was them. I just do not know where the rings could have gone. I did not take them out as I never wore them. Could somebody that works in Home Insurance answer this question please? |

The only thing I can tell you is to call the police and file a report. You might also look around the house and see what else is missing before you call them. Report it, pick up a copy of the police report and then call the insurance company and report it. All they can tell you is that your policy either cover's it or not. Good luck. |

what you're talking about is called mysterious disappearance. if you had the rings scheduled on your homeowners policy, then yes you can claim them. call your agent and ask if they were scheduled. |

You'll need a police report before you can do anything, |

Maybe. Did you insure them seperately on your policy, under a jewelry floater? That's usually the only way Mysterious Disappearance is covered. It's not build in to the standard homeowners policy, you have to buy it seperately. |

This is a difficult one as most policies will state for theft to be covered from the home, there often needs to be evidence of forcible or violent entry, dissappearance is a hard one to prove, you must check out the wording of your policy very carefully and decide if there is room to claim or if this rule is stipulated. Crime reports need to be also obtained, so must be reported to the police |

This is covered as "mysterious disappearance". It's basically the same as a theft claim. Before you call your insurance company, find out what coverages you have on jewelry. HO polices these days have limits for jewelry, watches and furs. Any appraisals of the items would be very useful as well.
Also know that this will raise your premiums for the next 5 yrs as well. So if they were not high value or you have very low limits on jewelry, it may not make financial sense to file a claim. |

If something has been stolen from your house you would have to report it to the police before you could claim from your insurance, otherwise people would be claiming left, right and centre!
You would also have to check that the rings were covered as they usually have to be insured separately. |

you have too report it to the police
have a letter from them then make
a claim remember if you do find them
you will have to tell the police and
repay your insurance company |

If they are that valuable, are they named separately on your contents insurance because if not, you may well find difficulty claiming for them in any case. You will need to report their loss to the Police in order to get a crime reference number to give to the insurance company and also be seen to be co-operating as much as you can with the Police to try and trace where they have gone or the insurance may well not pay out then either.
It could be difficult as they are small and easy to conceal and there has been some time delay in between them going missing and the report of their loss but nothing ventured, nothing gained. You will probably have an excess to pay and lose some of your no claims bonus so your premiums will go up next year but depending on the value of the rings, this may or may not be worth claiming bearing in mind the cost to you each month to get you back up to the full NCB you have now. |

You need a crime number from the police, to report the theft. Your insurance comapny will need this. |

Yes you can claim them as long as you have lost items covered in your policy. How much were the rings worth as you need to know if its worth your while claiming for both as you might have to pay an excess fee and your premium will go up
Its not worth telling your insurance company they were stolen as it was 6 months ago, just tell them they were lsot |

This is what we call a "mysterious disappearance " Claim. You need a police report. If the items are not scheduled then you only get a set dollar amount per item. ie: $500-$1,000 max. There is coverage ....but limited |
