Will computerizing doctor patent files and making paper work obsolete will make health care costs go down?
If the doctors are all computerized and paper work for patents as well as for filing insurance claims made faster by less paper work, will it drive the cost of health care down? Thanks in advance for answering...
No. The vast majority of escalating costs isn't CAUSED by paperwork. The problem is, we have escalating USAGE, and we're getting fatter and fatter, and less and less healthy, by the day.
Once we start losing weight, quit smoking, and get healthier, the health care costs will go down.

They've been talking about eliminating paperwork for over 30 years.
It hasn't happened yet. Probably won't for the next 20-30 years.

I highly doubt the cost of health care will go down. Theres no way they can completely get rid of the paper work. for one thing they need print outs if a medical case goes to court or something, like if they get sued.

No, I don't think it would make any difference. I have worked for 10 years for a Ph.D. and even with a lot of things now computerized, you still have to pay people to work the computers, interpret information, help patients who can't read and write, and follow up things when the computers go awry. Depending solely upon computers for health information and administration would be a seriously negligent practice with disastrous consequences.
