Will insurance cover claim if car was stolen and keys were hidden in car...full coverage insurance.?

Additional Details
I have full coverage insurance. I've heard people say no it won't pay, but it's just something they assume....no one I've talked to who say no, ACTUALLY knows any one that has happened to..I know it will not cover if you have liability only. Trying to see if anyone has had experience with this particular situation.

If you have comprehensive insurance, they will cover it. It does not matter that you left the keys in your car. Insurance companies do not take into account factors like that (I know this from adjusting many theft claims of this nature).

There are some responses that say you should not mention the keys thing. Actually, you should. The insurance company will want a police report. If you told the police about the key, they will find out anyway. Also, from experience, I can tell you that insurance companies are far more suspicious if someone has a theft under odd circumstances. The keys in the car thing is believable and would not have an impact on coverage.

Actually, if you have comprehensive insurance (which is a part of full coverage), theft is covered. Leaving your keys in your car is negligence, so that may be an issue.

The policy should cover the stolen vehicle unless it specifically states otherwise. This is information coming from a licensed agent in the state of California.

State Farm Insurance would cover it.

dont tell them about the keys first. then yes they should cover it

You need to call your agent. Theft coverage is there, they'll pay, likely.

Was the car stolen from a locked garage? If not, I don't think insurance will cover as the keys were (hidden or not) left in the car. I hope for your sake I'm wrong.

If you have theft insurance.

I used to handle lots of auto theft claims years ago. My boss always said, "You can't deny a claim just because someone does something not so smart." (Actually he used the word 'stupid,' but that's not politically correct.)

Your coverage is contractual. Unless you were in cahoots with the thief, your company owes you.

Make sure you report all the details to the police, a requirement for theft.

I would also tell the insurance company the truth. Not telling them about the keys can lead to problems down the road, especially if they recover the car and it has keys in the ignition.

Yes, it's covered if you have comprehensive or FTCAC coverage.
