Will my insurance pay for my car to get fixed after it was sideswiped by a unidentified person?
I own a 2006 nissan altima and last night i parked it on my street like i do every night. When i went to go out today i saw that the left side mirror was knocked off then i realized the whole left side of my car was side swiped. Should i tell my insurance company so they can help fix it or should i just pay for it myself out of my own pocket. I don't really know how much damage it is but i'm pretty sure my deductible is $500. If my insurance goes up a little it will be ok, as long as its not like $100 more a month.

Assuming that you have collision coverage, your policy will pay for the cost of repairs but you will be responsible for your deductible.

Based on the damage you describe, I am fairly certain the repairs will be much more than your deductible. If you want to be certain though, just go to a local body shop for an estimate before deciding if you want to submit a claim.

Most companies will not raise your insurance rates for submitting a claim where you have been hit by a hit-and-run driver. Other factors could cause your rates to go up though, especially if you have submitted numerous claims in the past several years.

Good luck with your situation.

Your insurance should not go up because this was not your fault.

They will pay over your deductible. Put in a claim. That is what yo pay them for. Next time put an alarm or something on your car to wake you up if someone touches your car.

If you only have "minimum coverage", then no, your insurance won't cover it. If you have "Collision Coverage" added, (you should if you are still paying off a car loan) then your insurance should pay for it just like it was your own fault, meaning you have to pay the deductible. In the same way, having "Collision Coverage" will protect you in case another driver is at fault, but they don't have insurance or are under-insured.

From http://www.carinsurance.com/CoverageDefinitions.aspx

Collision Coverage:
Covers damage to your car when your car hits, or is hit by, another vehicle, or other object. Pays to fix your vehicle less the deductible you choose.

It will pay (minus your deductible) if you have collision coverage. File a police report.

Do you have collision coverage? If you do, then yes, but you will have to pay your deductible.

If you don't, they won't help you fix it.

This is not an at fault accident, so your rates won't go up. But if you put in two or three "my car got sideswiped while parked on the side of the road" claims, expect to be cancelled.
