matt | Will the insurance company cover the cost of damage after having an accident involving drink driving? |
|
|

welcome news
 |
I've already answered this on another thread but:
If you were drunk then unless your insurance company has a drink/ drugs clause then you will be covered. The drink/ drugs clause may restrict cover to third party only (your liability is covered but damage to your car is not) or may exclude all cover (the insurer will deal with the claim and recover any costs against you).
Assuming the incident was your fault, you will lose two years no claims bonus on the average (unless you had a protected bonus) and a premium loading when you get your licence back (probably 50% as the market is vey competitive). The net effect of this would be to more than double the premium you paid last year. |

Absolutely NOT if it's you. |

Depends on the policy. You'd have to read it to be sure. |

Some companies have an exclusion clause about drunk accidents--you'll have to check your policy. Either way, they'll probably drop you or raise your premiums to an outrageous amount! |

Yes, but that will be the end of your relationship with them. |

If the level of alcohol in your blood was at permitted levels yes, could be. If not I don't think so. |

yes you will be covered, but definitely cancelled after the fact. Most insurance companies wont touch you for at least 3 years, and then really big premiums for another 3 years. Good luck! |

The insurer would be required by law to cover any damage or injury to the 3rd party, but I don't think they are obliged to pay for any damage to your own vehicle because you were breaking the law by drink driving (assuming you were over the legal limit). |

Yes they do. I have never seen a policy that excludes it. |
