healthplans.my-age.net - here is my health insurance. As I remember they can provide such a service. |

You can, but only if it is still within the time frame where the doctor can file a claim with the insurance company. (On average, anywhere from 6-12 months depending on the policy.)
And, of course, any copays/deductibles/coinsurance will still be a portion of the bill you are responsible for. But its still to your advantage to have a claim filed - even if it was applied to a deductible, the only way you get credit for that is to have the claim filed with insurance. Also, you'd then get the benefit of the insurance company's discount with your doctor rather than the full billed charges.
If its too late for the doctor to file a claim, then you can be held responsible for the full bill b/c you neglected to inform the doctor that you had insurance. (Which is really a silly move on your part - as I mentioned, even if you have a high annual deductible, the only way you get credit for a bill you pay is to have the claim filed with insurance!) |

Yes-as long as it's within the time guidelines with your carrier. Simply give your insurance info to the office and they will handle it. Depending on how long ago the office visit was, the office may or may not wait for the insurance to process the payment. Check with the office when you give them your insurance info. You don't want it to go to collections if at all possible, since this will ding your credit. Depending on your coverage and what was done you may only be liable for a co-pay. |

You should tell the doctor about your insurance company when you are making the visit. Otherwise, they will charge you for the entire amount and possibly make you pay before services are rendered. The insurance company isn't likely to pay for back for amounts you had to pay. |

Yes, but insurers have time limits for submitting claims. Better check into it. |

When you go to the doctor you give them your card and go through the process. |

The doctor will send you the bill. You likely still have a huge deductible to meet before any insurance assistance would apply.
For instance: if you have a $1000 deductible and the doctor visit was $200, then you'll need to spend $800 more, out of pocket. Plus, depending on your policy, you may have a co-pay of where you share a portion of the expense with the company. For instance: 80/20 may mean the company will pay 80% while you pay 20% of the bill.
You really must read your policy. If you have a major medical policy only, then it's to assist in an event such as surgery, and doctor visit coverage assistance wouldn't apply.
However, if you have an accident policy and you were hurt and went to see a doctor, the doctor's office may require you to pay up front and you must file with your insurer to be reimbursed. |
