I am 20 years old and I weigh 215lbs and my BMI is calculated to be 38.1. I was wondering if my insurance would cover a type of surgery for weight loss. I have Tricare under my dad's name, and I was hoping that they would cover a procedure such as the lap band surgery. So if anyone out there knows a answer, please give me one.

Make an appointment with a doctor who does this type of surgery. They will go thru your history and see if you have any reasons that the surgery would be deemed medically necessary. If you do they will pay for it and will OK it before the surgery. A friend of mine doesn't have any health problems and they denied paying for her surgery. Make an appointment and you will be able to find out. It takes about 4-5 weeks to get an answer from your insurance company |

Most don't. You'll have to call the number on the back of your card and ask.
