It can depend. If your policy is group health insurance, through your (or your spouses) job, its possible. You need to speak with your doctor, and your insurance company. By "repair", do you mean an abdominoplasty, or one of its variations? If so, most health insurance plans consider that cosmetic.... If you're having some sort of internal complication that causes you or your health to be at risk, it is possible it can be covered. The magic words you're looking for are 'medical necessity', regardless of their current stance on GB. But, All in all, they are not required to pay for any treatment related to GB if it is not a covered service. If the repair work is treating a complication, that's a bit different. |

Read you policy, or call the Company and get the answer from the horses mouth. If they say yes, write down the date, time, and name of the person telling you. It might be real important at a later date. |

Normally when you have a procedure like this done or a very expensive one. The doctor obtains a preapproval and Explaination of benefits. Usually in the pre approval it will tell how much money total they will cover and anything over that they wont cover. Btw how did the bypass work out for you? I had a friend who lost 103 pounds its amazing. Hope its working out for you. |

If you are healthy count your blessings. My mother had gastric bypass in 2003 as well and now has epilepsy..weighs 80 pounds..is loosing her hair and has to have blood transfusions once a week. They do not give her long to live all due to this surgery. She was healthy prior to having this done. All I have to say to this is if you planning on going under the knife to do "Repair work" do not push your luck. God Bless! |
