Medicaid is welfare health insurance, and it's run on a state by state basis.
What's covered, and eligibility requirements, vary from state to state.
You'll have to search for "your state name" and medicaid, to find your state's medicaid website. |

It is a federal / state program which subsidizes medical care for extremely low income people. You apply in your own county and there can be variations on eligibility in that county. The eligibility requirements are that you be in one of these classificatiosn in addition to being low income: be under 21, be over 65, blind, disabled, pregnant, with minor children, a new immigrant. Most people don't pay anything at all for medical treatment if they qualify for zero share of cost per month. However, these days most private doctors and no dentists (children only) accept Medicaid for billing except community and county clinics and hospitals. So it is very hard to find a doctor.
If you apply for SSI you generally also qualify for Medicaid. Some states have their own name for their Medicaid program. You apply at the Dept of HHS or Social Services at county level. |
