Okay Hero | (10 POINTS!!!) How should I invest $ 3000 ? (10 POINTS!!!)? |
I am going to invest 3000, what is the best way to get the highest payout later. I am not concerned with time since I have saved up this money and don't need it anytime soon.
Natural Resources;
====================
1. Gold (gone up dramatically recently, still work buying?)
2. Diamonds (controlled supply, still valued as certified)
3. Oil Stock (demand is always there)
4. Alternative Oil Research stock (technology, corn coal, etc.)
The Market
====================
1. Mutual Funds (+5% yearly - 1.5% yearly for trust fee)
2. Stock (high risk/reward, some dividends)
3. Money Market/Certificate (+3% yearly, no fees)
Other
=====================
1. Purchase a house so save up (savings acct, foreclosure, I am done college so I am looking for a full time job anyway, move out in about 5 years)
2. Open a small business (like make up artist, I would get $75 per face, or video editing I would get about 500, starting per job but would have a learning curve/time to acquire things, of 3 months for both)
Thanks! Additional Details I have a B.A. |

Put it in a CD at a bank. If you need to buy a house in 5 years you don't want to risk a hit to principal |

Uumm, my bank account?
Just kidding.
Leave your money at the bank until the recession is over. |

Invest it in a semester of college. Then repeat 7 more times. Get your degree. |

If you are looking for long term returns and plan to keep your money in place for 20 years plus, long term growth funds are great. Especially now since the market is a low. Check out the Fidelity and Janus family of funds.
Medium range return 7-10 years, I would seriously consider the US Automakers. GM is down to $4 bucks a share, I think Ford is around $3. If you have faith in their survival, they can only go up.
Also, you can't go wrong buying a house, especially with the market so low. There are some really good deals out there. In fact, if you wait another 2 years, the market will be bottoming out. Unfortunately for many homeowners, there are a lot of adjustable loans that will be resetting at higher payments in the next 2 years. The result will be many more foreclosures, which will result in home prices dropping even lower.
Oil is too volatile, unless you really know what you are doing. Between the sagging economy and alternative fuels, the prospects aren't too good anyway.
Gold is traditionally stable, but is at record highs. Remember the old saying, buy low sell high. Not so sure the timing is the best for gold right now. Diamonds, same thing. |

Buy some high yield dividend stocks that pay 6+%, such as MO, AA, NAT, GE, so on.
Simple maths:
If stock are appreciate 8-10%/year+6% dividends=14-16% return/year.
What you think? |

I would put the money towards a new home. Look for foreclosures. They are everywhere. Got a great deal on one myself a few months ago and absolutely love it and all the neighbors are jealous of what we got it for....has an in-ground pool, extra garage, and a screened in porch. Good luck |
