Check out this website. It gives information about the best online savings accounts.

I'd at least start there so you'll be getting better interest than 3.75%. Then you can look for other avenues from there. |

CDs or high yield savings.
If you chose a CD (Certificate of Deposit), your money is locked up for that period.
a High yield savings account is different because it allows you to access the money without losing out on too much interest.
Your best best is an account that is compounded daily - although in 6 months it would only be about a dollar or so difference (but hey - its your dollar).
I use ING Direct Orange Savings, it has 4.5% Compounded Daily and the money is accessible. They also have a referral program where you can refer a friend and get $10 and they get $25. Not a bad incentive. |

Why would you want to spend it in 6-8 months? Depending on what you plan to do with it then is what you want to consider. Not just the fact that you are going to spend it. You may also want to considering splitting some into a long term and some into a short term.
I am a Financial Professional and would love to give you more specific advice but ethically unless I could talk to you more about what you want to do or may have planned for it I can't give you good sound advice. Feel free to contact me for a free consult if you would like./ |

Put it in a Certificate of Deposit (CD) for 6 months. The rates now are about 5.16%, if you shop around you may be able to find a better rate.
A little riskier option would be buying stocks or bonds. With this you would not be able to guarantee an increase in your funds, but if you buy right you could easily make a few extra dollars. |

since you will be spending it ... get a cd that matures just prior to the date its needed... you should be able to get a 6mo cd at about 5.2% ish...Money market accounts would be about 4.75-5%
dont buy a stock or mutual fund....stick to money market or cd |

Check out prosper.com It has been reviewed by many reputable sources and does not appear to be a scam.
If you decide to loan money, spread across many borrowers. |
