AIG a good time to invest?
I was just curious if anyone had heard about how low AIG stocks closed today ($3.75), I was wondering if anyone was considering investing in them - why or why not?

Even though I'm only a kid, I understand how bad the stock market and the economy is right now, and I'd say, it's not a good time to invest because AIG might become the next Lehman Brothers and go down, and also seeing how even the best banks are going a bit down sometimes, you can't be sure that it will go up. But it's your choice. But if AIG does go down, and files for chapter whatever bankruptcy, there will be a big impact on the other stocks and the rest of the world, since AIG is worldwide.

Don't do it. They're going bankrupt. The government said they would not do a bail out like FNM and FRE.

AIG now is about $2.02, what if I planning to put down money for longer terms, let's say 5 years. won't it be very likely to go down eventually?

All financials are highly risky right now. As far as AIG is concerned, it's still highly uncertain whether or not they'll go bankrupt, so investing is probably not a great idea right now.

AIG would be a risky investment right now. I would say no. The reason is because they need $75 billion right now just to stay afloat. There's a good possibility that they could be bankrupt this week. AIG has dropped another 42% from $3.75 to $2.14 in afterhours trading. The government will probably step in and bail them out because if they fail it could be devastating to the economy. Even when the government does step in the company isn't going to be worth anything because the govt. will take over most of the shares which means that investors will get the shaft. In the last 12 months, AIG went from $70/share to $2/share. That's not a good indication that the company is going to be a good investment. I applaud you for looking for a bargain but this is not the way to go. There are good bargains out there but the company has to be solid fundamentally and technically. This company definately is not either of those. Please don't put your hard earned money in this stock. Email me, if you wish, and I'll give you some of my thoughts on where to look for value and solid fundamentals. Then you can do some of you own research and make a better decision. You have time. The market isn't going to explode to the upside any time soon. In fact, I think we still have some downside to go. More banks are going to fail. We're up to 11 already. I tihnk that AIG and WaMu are next. Good luck.

Just a further note,

Can AIG really go under???

In after hour trading AIG fell another 21% to $2.23.

A real gamble to me.

Unless Fed is really pump money into this company, other wise it is a big risk for investor to buy this company stock. Lahman brother (LEH) just bankrupt. This might be the tip of a iceberg. Be careful.
