Investing in stocks in a long term strategy. Don't invest if you will need the money in less than 2-3 years. Stocks are used to provide growth not income. In order to invest $1000 you will need the advice of a broker/agent. They will help manage the investment to provide the best return. As stated by all the others, you could also lose you investment. A stock or fund must be chosen by the amount of risk you are willing to take on. What is the strategy? Yes, people have gotten rich on the market, but if it was just that easy everyone would do it. Many people have also gone broke in the market.

Do your research. What they don't tell you is people also lose tons of money from stocks if the wrong choice.... be careful!

I recommend looking at a DRIP Plan as one of your investment options. I have had mine for over 22 years and it has given me an annual average return of 10.4%.

They are seldom recommended by brokers due to the low rate of commissions received. However, these
reinvestment plans can be very powerful long-term investments. Studies have shown that DRIP's are one of
the best strategies on Wall Street.

They are inexpensive and easy to start. New investors to the stock market should definitely consider a DRIP Plan.

Companies like Toyota, Royal Canadian Bank, Sony, Bank of America, General Electric and many other Blue Chip
Stocks can be purchased through your DRIP Plan, with as little as 1 share in most cases.

These long-term plans are great for beginners as well as veterans. Check them out.

Best of Luck

Izzie.
think of stuff people use every day and NEED. find a company like that, and track it for a while. then buy it if you want to. i have shares in verizon and apple and microsoft.

don't invest more then you're willing to lose. Yes, people become rich because of stocks but you have to understand there are plenty of people who have lost tons of money b/c of stocks. It's not free money. If you don't know anything about stocks, I would suggest investing in a Mutal Fund. A mutal fund is where you give a company your money and they take your money along wiht a lot of other people's money and invest it for you. I have T Rowe Price, you can do a monthly plan where they just take $50 out of your bank account every month. the minimum to invest just a lump sum is 2500 I think. I would avoid stocks though If you aren't familiar with them. You can very well lose your 1000.

Lakers
I recommend you investing in nike or gaucho.

If you have only 1k. Dont bother. Even 10k for a start is undercapitalisation. Reason number 1. Commission on the stocks will kill you.

Unless you intend to trade very infrequently. Like buy 1 stock and sell after 1 year or something. Then you have too little money to diversify your risk. I am not a fan of diversification. But I feel stocks are a game of probabilities. You move the probabilities in your favour, after a large number of tries, it will gravitate more towards your expentancy, assuming it is positive.

Too little money results in trades which might go wrong. Meaning. Even if you have a 90% chance of making money on a trade. There is a 10% chance that you might lose money.
But if you make 100 of such trades assuming you have enough money. You know you will come out making money 90% of the time.

So my advice is... Learn how to invest.. Read more books. Books about investing.. Or resources online to find those information. Spend money on your investing knowledge and you will reap rewards many times later.

If you have any questions regarding where to start learning. Feel free to drop me a mail at investmentknowledge@gmail.com. I will help out if I can.
