Am I missing something here?
I got into trading late October and since then I have made over $800 gains on just buying low and selling high. My initial investment was only $1200 then I added $700 more.

Many people here say now is not a good time to invest. Am I missing something?

Currently, you are not missing anything. The people that are telling you that it is a bad time to invest are probably the same people that lost a lot of money on their investments this year. It has been a bad year for the stock market overall.

Just remember a general rule, investing is long term, trading is short term. Right now, you are doing a good job trading.

Not if you are making money. But, right now is definitely a tough market to find stocks that will go up reliably. Whole economy is headed down, so finding companies that are going up is a challenge. But, it you are making profit, good for you.

I would caution that you may attribute your success to skill. Maybe it was luck. If it was truly skill, then it may repeat. If it was luck, then you may bet the farm and take a big hit. Be careful that your success doesn't give you an inflated notion of your skills.

how did you know it was low when you bought? How did you know it wouldn't go lower?
You are missing the fact that there are three main factors in successful investing/trading:
1. Luck
2. Inside information
3. Skill/knowledge

Would I be correct in assuming you have had a bit of No. 1?

pinhead
no, you are a savvy trader.

Hi, it does not matter...It is all up to your Knowledge and your research.....You can still do trading when the credit crunch occurs and profit as you did before.....Do lot of research and watch a lot of news from bloomberg....You will come to know.....You can trade options ,futures......But make sure you are putting your foot in right track......My advice is read read read.....more news .....increase your knowledge and you can do trading whethere the climate of economy.....

With the present economic conditions, and considering the cowardice of money during the crunch, it is always prudent to be very, very careful in trading. However, you are saying that you are making money now. So, good for you. But still there is a caveat on what's going on. You could only be lucky; if the streak continues, then go for it. But again, let go slow and easy. But I assume that you are already good in what you are doing, so take it slow and easy.

Good luck to you.

don't buy "safe" or blue chip stocks. buy something speculative, and you can make more money.
