Anyone ever won on the premium bonds?
I`m thinking of buying some. What`s the chances of winning?

I have a relative with just 600 Bonds, bought in two sets of 300 Bonds three years ago. Last June, July and August this person won 50, 100 and 100 UKP, respectively. Last week, this relative won again (50 UKP) with the same set of Bonds. He's hoping that August or September will give him the Big Win! But it's not a bad return so far - definitely better than a normal savings account, that's for sure.

In theory you have something like a 1 in 24,000 chance of winning a prize.
If you had the maximum of £30,000 you could expect on average, about 15 prizes each year.
I have had a few £50 prizes which I elected to automatically re-invest.
Great if you like a flutter, but don't expect to get rich overnight!
Good Luck!

my mum bought £100, and one £50 a week later. I bought £500 3 months and have won nothing... im still hoping though!

ps it was in the observer this weekend that the chance of winning has just increased from 1 24000 to 1 in 21000. Woohooo!

The chances are very slight, I have won £50 about three times since they came out donkey years ago.On the other hand someone won a million pounds recently one a holding of one pound held almost from the beginning.

They keep telling us that everyone has the same chances of winning, yet I've only ever won one £25 prize (about 20 years ago) and my mother-in-law seems to win £100 prizes about 4 times a year.

I won 50 quid in 1974 just before I got married! Never won another bean since then.

I have won several £50 prizes and some £100 ones but never more. My friend won £1000 and a cousin of mine got £5000 years ago but I have never heard or or met anyone who had a big win. I have had mine for years.
My dad has about £20,000 worth of bonds and he does win on average 8 times a year either the £50 or £100 prize.

I won £50 last year, i only had the bonds for 30 years !

Crispy bacon, eggs and tomatoes!
If you have the maximum investment of £30,000 you should win, on average, some three prizes each month.
my wife and I can verify this but £250 in a month is our individual limit - so far!
It's a good investment for a higher rate tax payer but poor, unless you are very lucky, for everyone else.
However, our son who has only £50 in bonds won £500 - someone will always buck the odds!

I won a hundred pounds on them five years back, but had them for ten and nothing since.

Chances are like any risk - it's a gamble

I used to work for a well known high street bank and we used to have some customers that had won nd got cheques for approx £150 a time but those were customer who had about £200k in premium bonds.
A bloke I work with has had 2k in premium bonds for about 6 years and has won nothing so in my opinion (please note this is only an opinion) it really does depend on how much you want to invest.
