Mycellular O | Are low priced stocks ALWAYS a bad investment? |
given the volatality of the market are low stocks always a bad investment? What if their 52w high was up there and the company has solid fundamentals? |

No. A stock can be currently "undervalued" and the price will eventually rise to reach its actual value. If a company really is solid, and has a viable future, it can be a safe bet.
I just hope you aren't talking about a financial or automotive stock right now. |

no but always a more risky one |

You always take a chance on low-priced stocks....especially if you're in for the long haul. I "swing trade" which means I buy a stock and hold it for days or weeks and then sell. I trade using trend, price and moving averages. If a company has reached a new 52 week high, I'd be watching to see if it was going to "breakout" and zoom upwards! |

The market is a day traders environment and if you are going long you should find good entry points to buy at low prices and be very short with your positions. May I suggest you put a stop loss and even a trailing stop loss on your order to lock profits.
The only way to long term trade is to go short on the market and that is betting the market to lose which is a safe bet considering the stock market has got much more downside left.

No, not ALWAYS....then again, burglars are not ALWAYS "bad people"....but you have to remember there's a REASON shares in KRAP.PK are only $1.36 each! |

There's market trend. Then there's the company's fundamentals. Then you have timing. You must watch all three when making a sound investment decision.
A fundamentally sound company that is tanking while the market is trending down is still not a good buy until timing indicators give you a thumbs up. |

No, not a "bad" investment but always a more risky one. A low price means there is less money behind them. So the failure rates are high.
If a stock is low because it once it was high and is falling then something is seriously wrong with the company. The turnaround rates for companies that fall off the stock exchanges in to being penny stocks is very very low. And most companies going bankrupt don't survive and if they do they rarely make much money for a long time.
It they were worth anything a larger company would buy them.
But many companies started small and people got very rich on them over time. But those are most certainly the exception. And smaller companies have less people watching, the information is harder to get, and there is less of it.
It takes very good skills to assess a small company and you can't trust the information as well either. And as said, most fail starting out.

* Stocks are 'worth' what someone is willing to pay for them at any given time.
* 'Solid Fundimentals' mean that the company is in good shape for the
conditions of last year. We're in a whole new economic ballgame today.
This doesn't mean you can't pick up some good long term moves.
Just be sure you know what';s going to happen next. |
