statistics graduate | Are there any investments that earn up to 30% interest annually? |
I saw a mutual fund once that had a 30% return, but I didn't see what it consisted of...... |

there is none that will regularly guarantee it. The market, or a particular mutual fund may get it for a year or a quarter, but it is not consistant or guaranteed. Also that is the total return of the fund that they are quoting, not the interest rate. |

Sure, you should probably look in the energy sector. For instance, IYE, which is an ETF (similar to a mutual fund expect that value is updated during trading hours like a stock while a mutual funds are updated at the end of the trading day) has performed quite well over the past few years at around the 30% return rate. Keep in mind though that past performance does not dictate future performance. |

The question clearly says interest. The answer is no. |

Hello,
I also had a similair problem as you have.
I had a good amount of money, and wanted it to grow.
So I looked around on the internet to find something that is:
1) giving me great returns towards a relatively small risk
2) Professional people who know what they where doing with my money.
I'm glad to say I finally found a moneymanager who is capable of giving me good returns and give me a great support.
On this blog you can follow up all the results that he is making:
http://my-robottrader.blogspot.com/
My money is working for me, in three months time I already have a ROI of 92%.
So you don't hear me complaining!
Annyway if you would like to get in touch with my moneymanager to have some more information feel free to contact me you can send an email to me at derrekmay at gmail.com.
Then I'll give you the email adress of my moneymanager
Hope this has helped you! |

The highest return on investment [ROI] I ever saw a mutual fund have is 19.6%. That was about 2 years ago.
The ONLY investment where you can consistently earn that amount of ROI is hard-money lending. The risks are very high.
You need a heart of stone.
Ice has to flow through your veins.
You'll get the reputation of being THE BIGGEST, MOST ROTTEN-TO-THE-CORE person who ever walked the earth.
If you have that kind fo personality and intestinal fortitude, do it. BUT give it very careful thought.
Thanks for asking your Q! I enjoyed answering it!

That mutual fund with a 30% return was probably total return, about 5% dividends or interest plus 25% capital gains (price increase) for the year. The nearest dividend rate to that is from US Shipping Partners LP (USS) with a 17% yield, Aircastle (AYR) with a nearly 17% yield, and Frontline (FRO) with a 18.5% yield. These are risky stocks so do you own research. For other high yield stocks, look at Value Line Investment Survey (at most libraries). |

Investor hint:
"Never base an investment decision by looking in the rear view mirror."
You can't predict what an investment return will be unless you buy a fixed rate investment such as a CD, US Treasury, or other bond.
The higher the return the higher the risk. The investment could also have been concentrated in a single sector and they were in the right place at the right time.
RARELY do the top performers EVER continue to be top performers in the following years. Sometimes the opposite is true, where last years lagers can be next years improved performers.
Also, "high yield" stocks does not mean you will make money. Many banks and other financial institutions had or have high yielding stocks but many have cut their dividends to short up their bad debt.
You can attribute "high yield" with "high risk."
A company that pays above market dividends are at greater financial risk, and you could loose all your money if they go under.
To try ant hit these numbers, you can look at Berkshire Hathaway. (NYSE: BRK, and BRK.B)
http://www.berkshirehathaway.com/
"The Company averaged a 25%+ annual return to its shareholders for the last 25 years while employing large amounts of capital and minimal debt."

If you are carrying a balance on a VISA credit card, then paying it off will give you a 20%+ rate of return (check the APR). Otherwise, there is no investment that will guarantee that rate.
Anything that gives you 30% is usually undiversified, and will just as likely lose 30% in a year. |
