Are we facing a meltdown on wall street??

If you mean, "Will this market recover?" the answer of course is YES. But could we go down further, you bet. There is a crisis looming tied to banks who created mortgage loans for homes that were overvalued and for people that could not afford them. Now that the home values have gone down and the interest rates have gone up, these marginal loans are beginning to default. 2-3 years ago Wall St got into the home mortgage game by funding CMO or Collateralized Mortgage Obligations. Why should only the bank/mtge company make money when there were BILLIONS of dollars available through the credit market.. Now those instruments are defaulting, and the big money center banks cant find anyone to buy them.. So the Federal Reserve Bank today put $14B in liquidity into the market essentially bailing out the bad loans, in 3 steps.

So, what makes a stock market? A difference of opinions !
Some people see the declines as the end of the world, others see it as bargains..stocks on sale. What happens next? My opinion is we go down until we get to about 20% off the high of Dow 14,000 or 2,800. So we've given back about 1,000 points.. I think there is another 1,800 to go before we go up..and then..we go up A LOT !!

In the meantime, buy put options (look it up) to protect your stocks and sell enough to be able to sleep at night..

Good Luck !
ED

PS. These are my opinions and no advice is suggested. Do your own homework before you invest in the stock market.

The market is still under accummulation, so does not appear to be a meltdown.

It looks like the market has made a bottom today (possibly). If the market begins to rally, I would look for it to rally till around 9/14/07 (or there abouts). If the market makes a top around then (9/14) and moves down, I would suspect that we can see a quick an violent down move in mid/late October or early November. But, I wouldn't consider that a major bottom. The market may rally after that, but I suspect it will roll over and begin a multi-year bear market that may last 15 years and see the Dow lose as much as 11,000 - 12,000 points, ie, Dow should ends its bear market around the year 2022 and at Dow 1,000 - 2,000 range.

No one can tell for certain. The loan stupidity and house price greed was five or six years in the making. Expect one or two years of fallout.

The market will go a little lower over the next week or so, until the consequences of the sub prime lending become clear and then it will shoot up again. I do not know about you, but I am buying.

First, to 4XTRADER, How can you believe the DOW is headed to 2000, are you crazy(no disrespect) but how can you say that. We just had a bigger than expected correction,

I see the DOW reach 14,400 this year.
