Are we in a bull or bear market right now?
I am trying to figure out if we are in a bull or bear market right now based on stock quotations from NYSE and NASDAQ but have managed to confuse myself, permanently. Please provide some clarity!

I'll vote for a correction within a Bull market. Some say the Fall season will be a good one for long positions.

A Bull likely to meet a Bear soon.
October tends to be a crash month and the market has good reasons to be shaky.

It is a bull. The last two GDP have been in the positive % direction. And ,it looks like the third will also be positive.

We just went from a bear to a bull. Check this link. When the DOW is above the 100 day moving average, we are in bull territory.

Depends on your time frame. Long term it's mostly flat.

I'd say bear just because of the subprime mortgage incident. Personally, I'm in favor of much higher interest rates. Considering interest rates have to be so low to keep the economy going tells me the economy is horribly defective.

I think a bear market, thats the downtrend one.

They're both named for how the animals kill their prey, bulls put their horns up, bears put their claws down. But the important thing is they are also intended for labling long term patterns. People try to talk about which we are in, but their has to be a substantial and lengthy change in one direction for it to truely be a bear or bull market. People try to name them as a prediction of weather it will continue to rise or drop.
