Are you converting your IRA this year?

Bad Dad
Rating
I don't know what you are considering converting it into. If you mean to a Roth IRA it depends. Your age and taxable income years are a factor. If you are young and don't have a fortune in a traditional IRA the conversion would be a smart move to eliminate taxes, which will most likely be higher, when you retire. If you are near retirement it may not be a good idea as you will pay taxes now on the total amount. Conversion makes sense if you expect to be have significant income after retiring as you do not have to start taking a Roth when you retire, but can let it earn and it can be inherited with no tax consequence, unlike a Traditional IRA. I would talk to a financial planner if you have substantial savings in your IRA.

No, I have both types of IRA's in brokerage accounts. That way, I can buy and sell any type of security that is available. It gives me flexibility.
