Of course!
If the market NEVER comes back, then neither gold nor cash nor pixie dust will do you any good, you'll need drinking water and bullets...
But stocks are so under-priced at the moment that if you buy quality stocks while they are effectively "on sale", you'll make a boatload of money when the market DOES start to come back and suddenly all the cash "on the sidelines" is pumped back into the market by people who don't want to (but will to late not to) "miss out".
I'm investing as broadly as possible, but bank stocks are especially attractive to me right now...they are SO beaten up! |

Investors have been investing and would continue to invest into the future.
Given the investment time horizon even at an individual level, it would be an opportune time to have invested and continue to invest in the near term; as most stocks including the bluechip and index stocks are at reasonable valuations; and are technically oversold.
As a clarification, you may appreciate that when you are investing - it is for the long term. However, given stock market conditions during the investment time horizon a certain amount of portfolio rebalancing would be required from time to time. An appropriate tool to apply in this regard would be the "portfolio upgrade".
Which would mean a deft management of your financial resources from your bank account to the instrument chosen for investment and back to the bank account along with the profits that may have been generated during the period of holding the investment instrument. This would logically imply that it is not necessary to hold the stock or financial instrument chosen for investment for the whole length of the investment cycle. When objectives are met, action would be required to be taken (that is buying or selling).
Sincerely,
Akash

Absolutely! Bargains abound. The market may not be as low as it will go, but then again, maybe it is. One thing for sure, it's going to go much higher in the next few years. It's a grand time to buy! I just feel very sorry for the people who have no choice but to sell now, like retirees who did not get properly positioned for a down market. Hopefully we all learn from times like these. |

YES, dividends are important, most yields above CD and T-Bond rates. My portfolio is positive and I'm investing cash, trading on volatility. Mostly large caps. Have some very speculative small caps too.
I've traded this way since 1981, and at 42, semi-retired. I won't change what works for me. |

No - because the worse is yet to come. I'm strictly short term trading, taking advantage of the fools who are pushing up the VIX. Very few stocks are worth investing in right now, altho the oil energy sector will be the first to recover next year. |

The market is down - this is the time to invest - not the time to sell - unless you wish to use the $3000 deduction for capital gains loss on your taxes - sell your stocks -- wait a month - and then repurchase at their new lower price - if you still think they're a good investment - now at the new lower price, you're sitting better to take advantage of their gain in price as the market goes back up. (Read IRS-550 publication for rules for doing this)
I have some stock that is actually up over 20% of the purchase price - but those are few right now. |
