Bank error, should I return the $100?
The teller forgot to take $100 in cash during a bank deposit (Standard Chartered). Should i return the money to the bank or should i keep the money? Is it true they give me like 10,000 in reward like they do on TV?

Most Banks take any discrepencies out of the tellers payroll. You are not hurting the bank but, you would be hurting a low income employee for probably a full half of their weekly income. I say return the money. You will look good for having honesty, and the bank will remeber you when you need services such as mortgage, loans, and car loans.

**** no, if it was like a person that really needed the money, then yeah i would say give it back... but its a bank!!! you might need it for something better.. or do a good deed with it.. (that way you will have no remorse!

stupEd, the bank won't audit for 100 dlls.. and i doubt they will charge the person, its a mistake, we all make them, but if they notice, they will charge you for those 100 dll.

Give the money back and no you want get a big reward.

Tellers as well as other cashiers ae held responsible for their losses, maybe not financially but mistakes are held agains them

Taking or accepting money that is not yours is stealing

If your lack of morals or principals are such that it doesn't bother you keep it, but thank God people like you are in the minority.

Keep it, bribe you kids or friends, and show them what a snake you are.

Why? I went through a similar mistake. In my case the bank mistakenly took out $300 dollars from my account, I called the bank, they wanted to argue, I had to call a consumer advocate on a radio talk show before the bank would even listen to me. If it had not been for the 38,000 listeners the bank would never have conceded the mistake. Banks suck! Don't look a gift horse in the mouth. Maybe this will teach the bank not to hire high school students who can't add and subtract. My God this is a bank, you would think the employee's would be able to count. On an added note: this happens all the time in every bank. Now, is there any wonder why they can't pay higher interest rates or fall into debt from bad loans? Oh, the reward thing....it's a customer service ploy, a scam.

LOL u better pick mine as the best answer lol: "HECK NO" those people are frauds and it's their money they will just trick you so don't take their advice!

raysor
Yes. You know it is not your money so it should be returnd.
However you won't and 99% of people wouldn't. Problem is you will lose $100 or more somewhere else due to the fact that you will keep it! It's your decision.

Don't believe in everything you see on TV. The bank will eventually audit the account and will then take back the $100. If you don't confess to them their error and least don't spend that $100.

Keep dreaming, just give the money back before they come looking for it and you. Don't you ever watch the show my name is Earl ? Carma a B@#%*!

You should tell the bank about it, honesty is the best policy.

Boooooo!!!
Yeh return it. No one's going to give you 10,000 quid. It'll come out of someone's wage I reckon, so that is totally mean. You'll probably keep it anyway, like most people would if they were in your situation, but if they find you out you'll probably get fined or something for not giving it back. Do it, incase they find out! You could get done for it, better to be on the safe side. =]
