Before proceeding, ask yourself the following questions

How long do I wish to invest for?
Do I need access to the money?
Am I a non-, basic-rate or higher-rate taxpayer?
How much risk am I prepared to accept?

National Savings Variable Rate Investment Certificates make an excellent choice for taxpayers who want a low-risk 3 or 5-year investment.

Non-taxpayers who do not want to lock up their money would do best with a bank/building society online account offering over 5% gross per annum.

Risk takers might like to put it all in a unit trust or even shares in just one company. Depending on the length of the investment, a tax-free ISA wrapper could be added to 7000 pounds of it.

Hope this helps.

Invest in Oil. Look up peak oil online. Oil prices are set for a dramatic run. Don't invest in the companies but the commodity itself. Gold should also benefit from the ensuing financial instability and inflation during the economic downturn.

Buy a house, properties are always the best way to invest money but get advice from a financial advisor first. Good luck. x

10,000 in premium bonds will return £650 a year, £10,000 in an ISA will do nicely too. Invest some on shares too. Have fun and enjoy your money. Have a look at www.moneysavingexpert.com
