Auto finance is what I do for a living and there is no doubt it will pass.
The auto manufacturers are some of the last really large companies that actually produce something in this country.
We simply can not afford for them to go out of business, your talking about over 4-million jobs.
And in my opinion after our new president is in office I think the bail outs will not only continue but get larger as well. |

I don't agree with the bailout.
But, I am sure they will still mismanage it and end up in the same position they are in now.
The Big 3 seem to be somewhat resistant to change and changing with the times.
In fact the other day GM had a commercial for a $70,000 Escalade, and my first thought was...what the hell is GM thinking? With the economy the way it is they are advertising a $70,000 car, when they should be advertising a $20,000 Malibu.
My lease on my current car is up in Feb 2010. Even with the bailout, I still won't buy from the Big 3. I might consider it if they moved to non-union labor, but that won't happen. So I am sure I will get another Honda product.
I think the biggest problem that the Big 3 face is winning back consumer confidence. We've been screwed many times by GM, Ford and Chrysler that getting back those displaced customers might prove to be the biggest challenge. |

I think it will pass -- but I don't think it should. Since very few people are buying cars right now, soon the companies will be in the same boat again. The problem seems to be supply and demand -- there's an overabundance of cars, and little demand. I do think it's scary to think how many more people could loose their jobs without the bailout -- but if the job isn't in demand . . .

I think they will approve it. And it will be good temporarily.
But this $15 billion is not going to last very long. And sooner or later Congress will have to decide whether to provide permanent subsidies for the automakers or not. |

Yay IF they system is overseen and changed. Unions, these companies can't pay $75 and hour and survive. They don't survive you don't have a job. |

Yay with conditions. I think a negotiated bankruptcy is the way to go.
I think their saying it will kill off the company is just smoke to save their own jobs. They know if it goes to bankruptcy the big boys will lose their jobs and all their stock options and perks.
Did you know the CEO of GM got over a quarter of a millions dollars in personal use of those private planes for free, as a job perk?
Something is real wrong in the business world. We are being taken to the cleaners, me thinks. |
