You can see it now. However, the capital gain will be a short-term capital gain.
If you hold it for one year, then the capital gain will be a long-term capital gain, which could have a lower tax rate. This could be the reason why people tell you not to sell it earlier. |

If you have a cash account, and sold stock before that trade that hasnt settled yet, you cant sell your current stock for three days. |

yes you can sell. the only problem would be if you did not put the cash up prior to selling. you could still sell, but your account would be restricted for free riding. |

Sure, you can sell the stock any time you like. However, unless you have a margin account any new stock you purchase, prior to the settlement date, must be held for at least three days or you may be barred from trading for (I believe) 90 days. It may be worth your while to apply to change your account to a margin account for just this reason. |
