Can US resident open a bank account in Euro?
Can I (while living in the US) open an account in Euro in an American or European bank?
Additional Details
Can I (I live in the US) open an account in euro in an American or European bank? It may be euro-account in the U.S., or euro-account abroad. How about on-line saving accounts such as ING-direct?

you are able to do so easily.

But, remember their banks are not like the US banks. They have different rules and laws, most of them you HAVE to keep a balance in, and they will have to be in either EURO tender or tender of that country.

I would HIGHLY suggest you get infomation before doing this. If you absolutely want to do this, make sure you open a SWISS account, it is the only country which will insure outside holders, to my knowledge.

Yes, it is very easy in Luxembourg, Switzerland or Liechtenstein. porbably in many offshore banking locations in the Caribbean, as well like Bermuda or Grand Caymans.

You would need a a significant amount to be worth it for you and for the bank. It is unlikely that an individual can have an account in euros in the US due to extremeley low demand at banks for such accounts, consumer liability and federal reserve bank reporting requirements/regulations.

I'm really not quite sure which you actually want; an account in the U.S. or one in Europe? Where are you living, here or there? Are you a legal resident or on a Visa? You would actually have to find out from the banking institutions who would be handling it.

Banks don't care where the money comes from as long as its legally gotten!

It is not easy, but possible. Many countries need residency requirements. They do not want to get involved in money laundering.

However, if you go there and rent an apartment or buy a house, you will improve your chances.

Starsh
Yes. But there is a safer place.
