A patent cannot be obtained upon a mere idea or suggestion. The patent is granted upon the new machine, manufacture, etc., as has been said, and not upon the idea or suggestion of the new machine. A complete description of the actual machine or other subject matter for which a patent is sought is required.

Strictly speaking, you can't patent an idea. You can only patent an invention. But you don't need to actually build an invention in order to patent it. You can patent it even if its just an idea on paper, as long as you can show how you would build it.

no, because its a thought, not a invention or product. Anybody can steal it and you cant take any kind of lawful action against it because it is not illegal to steal an idea. |

I believe the only ways you can patent an idea is if its a product or a trade secret/process (for example your secret family recipe for apple pie or a pharmaceutical co. that has a special process they use to make medications.)
You cannot patent an idea like a service. Like if you invent a manual car wash and someone makes an innovation like a machine car was there is nothing you can do about it. |
