I would recommend William O'Neil's "The Successful Investor" as a good starting point. Follow that up with Peter Lynch's "Beating the Street". That should provide you with two strategies that you can learn from in building your own investment strategy.
Other good books include "The Motley Fool Investment Guide" by Tom and Dave Gardner or "Real Money" by James Cramer.
I have read all these books and many others and devised a strategy that adopts a bit from each one.
Another thing you can do is invest using a fictional portfolio. Let that run for a few months to see if you are ready to start trading with real money. In the meantime, invest in mutual funds. Once you are ready, sell the fund and invest on your own.
Remember, the time spend learning about investing is far less then the money lost by not being prepared.

Number one rule: Do not respond to businesses touting through the answers page as they are nearly always con men.
Now, to the shares. Study the market, read all the financial news you can,think about companies you know through buying their products [ ask yourself is this a good company ,why is it different from others in the sector/ research their annual reports [free in U.K. if you ask for them ] The Financial Times is the best European business news paper and the Wall Street Journal is the best American business newspaper. Hold for the long term when you decide to buy. If it is a great company you can ignore all the ups and downs of the daily market and re invest your dividends. Follow this and in 10 years you will be much wealthier than you are now. Avoid anyone who has a quick rich scheme. |

Don't know much about them, but the site i'm on talks about shares and stuff like that, and if you live in the U.S., its a really good site where they pay you just to surf the internet and it’s totally free, you don't have to do any stupid surveys or anything. All you do is download a toolbar that keeps track of the hours you're on the internet. (You get a certain amount of hours you have to fill, right now its 5 hours a month) and while you're on the internet surfing just like you normally do, you get paid! It’s really easy, they won't be able to send you the $150 a month though until august since it’s still in beta version, but you can use this time to refer friends and thus get more money because the more friends you refer the more money you get also! It’s free and really good! I already have the toolbar. Just e-mail me for the site and if you have any questions.
