For stock market:
www.stockrhythms.com/stock-market-educ...

For mutual funds:
mutualfunds.about.com

Morningstar.com also provides a wealth of free knowledge and guidance on what the best performing stocks/funds are and their track record. From this site you should be able to determine what some good funds are. ie China, Latin America, South East Asia, Energy..... I might suggest setting up a Roth IRA in Tradeking.com if for your mutual funds if you won't need the money for a while. Otherwise make it a regular account.

For stocks, once you have a basic understanding, you can still make a lot of mistakes, here are some recommendedations:
"24 Essential Lessons for Investment Success" by O'neil
Watch Madmoney and Fastmoney on CNBC, don't react to their recommendations, but watch/take notes/reflect and you'll be able to understand what's happening and why. You can open an account with OptionsXpress.com and use a mock account to test drive as much as you need (I would wait until you consistently make more successful investements then not before investing real money, it can take a lot of time)

Then when you are ready to invest in stocks, open an account with Tradeking.com(I use) or Zecco.com who have low/no commissions

Do your research on the funds, stocks and companies. Vanguard and TDAmeritrade have nice research capabilities. I think MS Money does too.
