I use 5paisa.com of India Infoline Securities Pvt. Ltd. This service is also provided by Sharekhan, Motilal Oswal, ICICIDirect, HDFC, Kotak, etc.
You will typically open a trading account and a demat account, and you will also need to have an internet banking enabled savings/current account to transfer money to/from your trading account.
While choosing a service provider, compare the following:
1. Annual maintenance charges for demat account
2. Brokerage
a. For Intra day
b. For Delivery
3. Any hidden cost
