Can i buy and sell stocks even though i dont have thousands in my account?
im a student and to be honest i dont have thousands in my account maybe a couple of hundreds. can i still buy a few stocks and sell them ?

It may be costly because most brokerages charge a per-trade transaction fee. For such small transactions, those fees eat up a large percentage of investment.

You can try Zecco.com, the only brokerage I know that has free trades, only 10 per month though.

Yes, I work part-time at Wal-Mart. I invest with the company in our personal stock plan. I also invent with other companies using ShareBuilder it only cost $4 to buy and sale your stock. You don't have to have a account minimum, you can put $20.00 dollars in if you want. I'm 23 and I make around $11,000 a year. I buy a little at a time maybe $50 in stocks a month.

Yes, there are some brokerages that don't require a minimum account size. One of these is OptionsXpress. I have an account there and have always had great service and excellent trade executions. With a small account, you should avoid frequent trading because, as others have said here, the commissions will take a big bite out of a small account. It would be best to find a strategy where you hold stocks for a year or more, such as the "Dogs of the Dow," in which you buy the highest-yielding stocks in the Dow Jones Industrial Average and hold them for a year. See www.dogsofthedow.com for details.

Yes you can, however the fees per trade will eat up your returns. Zecco.com has 10 free trades per month. Also, sogoinvest.com has free trades for 30 days and 1 dollar per trade for 6 months.

Yes. You can trade on margins. Speak to your broker. if he does not offer it some one else will. It is very popular and a powerful way to make money, or lose it.

sure.you don't have to buy 100 shares..............

It would be tough to be diversified with only a few hundred, you might want to stick to one or two good stocks,, don't bet on volatile stocks, as they could take a huge % chunk out of your total investment,, if you are looking for some good articles that teach newbies about investing,, you should check out www.thewallstreethunter.com

Good luck
