nope, sorry but it's gone, i've lost money aswell. Just have to ride it out.

Don't listen about investing overseas, it's a global economic problem - investing overseas is not going to escape a global issue.

It is gone but you may be able to claim a capital loss on your income tax return.

The Dow Jones closed at 8300 today. There is a high possibility of it heading for 6300 and maybe even 4500 by next year. Like you, I heard all these "experts" say not to sell now, and that was back in July, much less January in your case. Even the answers you're getting repeats the sheeps mentality of holding. If you have cashed in and lost 22,000, then you only lost 22,000. If you have not cashed in you will lose more. You can recover loses in the market by actively trading it. I mean you need to be willing to learn and work it. 22k is a lot of money and well worth the effort. Good luck.

You should hold on or add to your investments. Buying low is the common sense approach. Unless you have bought into companies that are disappearing like mists in sunshine, they are probably heavily oversold. I fail to see why anyone wouldn't appreciate a decline in price, every freaking thing else I need has gone up. Like food.

The market will recover. You might get 10% pop early 09.

Sorry, it's gone to the money grubbers. The Economy is coming down. Invest overseas.

If you cashed out the stock, you are sol! If you have not cashed the stock just sit tight it will rebound.

It's gone for now, and all you can do is wait, wait, and perhaps wait some more.
Your stocks did as they said on the packet.
They went up, and went down.
An honest banker would have lied to you if he promised that they would go back up again.
.. We've never seen a dishonest banker, now, have we?
Personally I'd seek out the services of a bank robber or just do my time again scrimping and saving.
It was all a con.

mommacat
only if things go way back up. that $ is gone as of now

I disagree with the others. These are only paper losses. As long as you didn't "realize" these losses, it will eventually go back up and you will regain these losses. Selling while down, would be the worst thing to do. There are only 2 constants in the market. 1. The market will go up and down. 2. It will go up as a whole, over time. Hang in there.

X84 is totally right. Just don't sell. I'm in the same case. I even bought a bit more to reduce costs, but it keeps going down!! Sit tight and don't sell. We are all expecting (hoping) a major pullback
