The stock market is a market place where people disagree.
As an example, if everyone agreed that shares of IBM will double in price tomorrow, nobody would be selling shares of IBM.
Conversely, if everyone agreed that shares of IBM will lose 99 percent tomorrow, nobody would buy shares of IBM.
Since an average of 5 million shares of IBM are bought and sold everyday, it is clear that many people disagree on what the stock will do in the future.
Therefore, the game is about information.
If you are better informed than the majority of other stock market players, then you stand a chance.
As an example, I sometimes invest in companies when its insiders are buying heavily. Of course, the rest of the analysis must show that the stock is undervalued. My point is: who knows best how many cents per share IBM will make in this quarter, you or IBM's CFO?
If you agree that, in most cases, the insider knows best, then you should at least know what the insiders of a company are doing before you invest.
For the rest, you need to know how to evaluate a company, so that you can find out whether its share price is undervalued, correctly valued or overvalued.
Below is a link to my site, where you can find some of this information for free.

Good luck

Stay away-it is a scam that will steal all your money. I lost 145k. Over 8 trillion was lost during the bubble days. Only a few have gone to jail. Get a 5% cd that you can't lose a penny on because it is insured. |

The stock market is effectively a market where anyone can buy or sell shares (or stock) in different companies. The value of each share in each company is determined by the demand for the shares which in turn is determined by various other factors such as how well the company is doing, the industry the company is operating in - in short, what the fugure prospects of the company will be.
Check www.fool.co.uk - a lot of these are explained very simply. |
