The "bailout" is to free up the credit markets so companies can get needed capital again, but it's not going to happen overnight. The Treasury won't even be able to start the buying program for up to a month. Unfortunately, the problems that lead up to the credit market seizing up are still there, and stocks trade on future expectations. The other thing is earnings season begins next week, and while there will be up and downside surprises, traders are waiting to hear forward looking statements on the earnings calls. Add all that to some major hedge fund liquidations, and you get a market that is too jittery to stay up for too long. Too many unknowns. The big mutual funds are sitting on the sidelines with lots of cash, waiting to get a better handle on what will be coming in the next few months before they step in. Notice the fundamentals have meant nothing lately? That's not simply multiple contraction - since no one has a clue what the next quarter's earnings are going to look like, no one can assign a multiple they can trust to anything - yet. Until we know what's coming, it will still be buy the dips and sell the rips. This won't go on forever... For long term investors, the prices they're practically giving things away for are amazing. Biggest problem is, you don't know if they'll get even more amazing... |

The truth is, that this Bail-Out is not good for almost everyone, and is only good for the few ones who are being Bailed-Out - where they had Privatized the profits they took (Stolen) and are now Socializing (Unloading, passing on to you) the LOSSES on your as well as the American Taxpayers' accounts.
This will show up as the biggest yet lie to all Americans, during this worst ever dishonest administration of and weakest minded leadership of the USA, and they did it all on purpose, as the Grandfather of G. Bush had done by financing the enemies of the USA.
Just look for the truth and not the blame on The Jews and Wall-street traders... try to understand what The New Order is all about... |

Any sort of boost your shares of stock might have received from this bailout probably already happened before today.
I think the reason most stocks dropped after the announcement was that Wall Street had developed a sort of tunnel-vision, only focusing on this bailout package. Once it was approved, investors went back to thinking about the long-term outlook, which is still pretty bad, and prices went down.
I personally had a good laugh when I realized how far Citigroup fell. I sold my shares a couple of days ago at $23/share and bought them back today at $19. |

The bailout is a good thing because it will give people a chance to take out loans. The relationship between the bailout and your portfolio is based on expectations. For example it took a dive when it came out that the bailout would not go through, because it was widely expected to pass.
The recent passing of the bailout was expected and the market will not reflect a positive return in the near future for your portfolio. |

No - it's supposed to free up the credit markets. |

The bailout is not geared to help people like you with your investments. What is designed to do is help keep banks alive that are failing due to bad debts and mortgages. This will hopefully help the economy by allowing banks to continue to loan money. The alternative is that banks will go under and there will be a capital shortage, which will hurt all businesses (and therefore cause the stock market to decline).

Ughhh! The banks are out of money, they are broke. The government gave them money that we are paying for, so they can lend it to us. I am not for this, and obviously many others aren't either. There is no promise that this will work. It is a bad move. Market will be choppy for a few more weeks, Market will turn around somewhere between now and the beginning of next year. Election has nothing to do with it. Hold on, don't sell at this point. Make sure you are positioned well in the right stocks and funds. My recommendation, US company large mid or small cap growth mutual funds. |
