Can un married people buy a house?
Can a boyfriend and girlfried by a house together? lets say one of them has a good job and the other has a good inheritance, how would that work? is it easier to just get married? sign a pre-nup or no??

just_the_facts_ma'am
Yes, you can. There are different ways to hold title, such as joint tenancy, joint tenancy w/right of survival, and as separate property. The rights for each may vary from state to state, so you should talk to a lawyer.

Just my opinion, but I wouldn't decide to get married based on buying the house...

You can also have an agreement drawn up beforehand that spells out the ownership percentage between the two of you, and how that might change over time if one is, say, making the down payment and the other is making the mortgage payments

yes..you can buy a house, you should really consider finance with both your names,so you can right off the interest.. you could set up a living together agreement but prunup would be an after marriage thing and if the money is an issue, then don't get married..

My wife and I did this before we were married. However, we ended up putting the house in my name alone because she is British and did not have her residency permit at the time. However, nothing stops you legally from doing so.

You can ....

But it's not a good idea. The one with more recources should purchase the hours, and the other should just pay "rent", until you get married.

Back in the seventies my girlfriend and I could not get a loan because we weren't married. So we went down to the court house and got married. We still didn't get the loan but are still married 34 years later my second her third. Today I think it's no problem to get a loan with out bring married but I don't advise getting married unless it's for a legal reason. It's pretty much of a fifty fifty crap shoot. If you do get married you will remember what I told you years down the road. " There's no reason for it unless there is a reason for it. It's only a piece of legal paper that can be changed at the whim of either party."

It would be best if they were married. That way if they break-up then one person can't say that they strictly own the house. It would be very complicated in the long run. In the divorce, the judge will decide what to do.

Not if you live East of the Mississippi River. West of the river is okay. Check local ordinances.

I think it's arrestable here in Pennsylvania.

In Britain un-married couples can buy a house together. It is perfectly legal. I don't know about the law in other countries. I think that a mortgage application from a married couple will be looked upon more favourably.
