Can you make good money if you buy an stock but don't sell it?
Even if the stock share price double, triples and quardurples. If I don't sell the shares it would be just as if the value was when I first bought it right? I mean dividends won't make me rich right? Payouts from dividends are going to be nowhere close to the total value if I sold all my shares.

Also the hold time would be, 15 -30.

Dividends can be a significant income stream. I've been buying 100 shares of one company each year for 12 years. This year my 1200 shares of this company will pull in $1200, which would allow me to fund another investment.

As long as you own the stock you do not lose or gain(except for dividends). You make money or lose money when you actually sell the stock.

There are many companies that at one time were considered one decision companies (companies you could buy and hold for practically forever). Quite a few of them have ceased to exist. DEC was one. Sears was another. Even Compaq.

As for dividends, there are companies that have a history of raising their dividends. A company that pays a 3% dividend but raises the dividend 8% every year after 10 years will be paying a dividend of better than 6.5% on your original investment, but also chances are that the stock price will also have better than doubled in the mean time.

15-30 years? Dividends can be good income depending on how much stock you own. If the stock quadrupled why wouldn't you sell it? you need to own lots of the stock to make good money without selling any of it.

I recommend you give this free E-book a shot. It's an easy, fast download and the potential gains from reading it are enormous!

in general yes

but you can't say a company will be good forever, if all foundmental turns south you will sell the stock and accept your loss.

in a long run, good company stocks will go up when company is making money and run by great management.

at least 5 years should get you good return.

30+ definitely for good retirement

If you buy quality dividend paying stocks, and hold them for 30 years, the dividends (at perhaps 3-5%) will have paid for your initial investment after 20 years, so any value they have after that will be FREE money with NO attached risk!

But in reality, such stocks will also continue to rise in price at an average rate of 7-10%, so you'll be swimming in cash eventually.

Buying and holding good stocks and reinvesting all dividends and distributions is the easiest way to become a multi-millionaire.

Start with $1,000 and add $20 a week, invest it all in the highest-yielding dividend stocks that are components of the Dow, and the dividend-adjusted long-term net yield of 17.7%/year will INDEED make you rich!

You don't make any money until you sell. The only way you can make any money is withdrawling the dividends ... but I always recommend reinvesting the dividends.

piet lul
you won't make any money that way.
